Welcome to the Wallace Elementary School of Integrated Arts

Wallace Elementary School of Integrated Arts is the culmination of input from the Kokomo community and the Kokomo Schools New Program Committee. With input from these groups, two years of study, visits to integrated arts programs in both the Carolinas and Colorado schools, and collaboration with Butler University, an integrated arts school became a reality in Kokomo.

The Wallace School of Integrated Arts allows students to learn a core curriculum in an environment where the arts are integrated into all aspects of learning. Students have the opportunity to study art, music, dance, movement, and similar subjects while applying this knowledge to core subjects. Integrated Arts students also have daily class time to learn piano keyboarding, as well as to study violin.

This Integrated Arts approach recognizes the importance of the arts in the boys’ and girls’ education. This emphasis placed on the visual and performing arts within the curriculum enhances all core areas of curriculum.

Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area while meeting evolving objectives in both.

With the help of our Kokomo Arts Community, this Integrated Arts approach enhances our arts curriculum, as well as our regular curriculum. With a big picture in mind, we develop the details through our Integrated Arts curriculum approach.

Superintendent Jeff Hauswald’s support for the program and his commitment to professional development during the spring and summer in preparation for our launch in August 2012 has created a well-trained and enthusiastic staff that is working with excited students on a daily basis.

Welcome to Wallace Elementary School of Integrated Arts!!!
